Turn-by-turn directions
From the Car Park, we head South-West on one of the many paths that cross Chorleywood Common heading for Colley Land. We decend this steep road and then cross under the railway bridge, following Whitelands Avenue to the entrance to Carpenters Wood. Heading across the wood, we turn left onto the Chiltern Heritage Trail/Chiltern Way. We follow the trail past Newhouse Farm and onwards to cross Blacketts Wood Drive. We turn right onto Shire Lane, which leads onto Old Shire Lane. The trail turns right and skirts around the grounds of the Chiltern Open Air Museum to arrive at the main entrance. We cross over a couple of small roads still following the trail. Finally, crossing the A413, and skirting the churchyard, we enter Chalfont St Giles.
We cross over the crossroads onto Straton Chase Drive. As the drive way bends around to the left, we carry straight on. As we arrive at Mill Lane, we follow this for a short way and again follow the trail straight on as the lane bends left. We cross Bottom House Farm Lane, currently supporting HS2 construction. This part of the walk coincides with the South Bucks Way.
At a crossroads in the path we turn half right to cross the River Misbourne via a footbridge and head up the opposite side. You can make your way on either side of the hedge since it is not clear which is actually the marked path. In either case there is a hole through the head to give access to the path leading up to the A413. We cross over and turn left to find a marked path into the field. This path crosses the driveway at Stanley Hill and then heads up behind Amersham College. Passing through some allotments, we arrive at White Lion Road. We turn right along the road and cross over to take a small gap in the hedge to cross the railway line over a bridge behind Repton Place. Heading along the path in the direction of Raans Farm. Ignoring the path through the tree line to the rear of Boughton Business Park, we take the path on the right level with the farm buildings.
We emerge onto Bell Lane turning right to pick up a footpath just before the driveway to Nos 77-79. We pick our way through footpaths and roads to cross under the railway and climb Bell Close back up to the White Lion Road.
We turn left and follow the road around for a welcome lunch at The Metropolitan.
After lunch we turn left to continue along Chalfont Station Road. The road passes under the railway and snakes up the other side. We turn left into Chessfield Park. As the road bends to the right, we carry straight on, taking the footpath to enter West Wood. We turn right in the wood to take the high path along the edge of the wood. Crossing over Stony Lane, we continue to follow the path to wards Chenies. We take a gate into Chenies Wood and follow a path that skirts the car park and emerges in front of Chenies Manor.
Continuing down the drive, we cross over the green to take the small driveway opposite. We follow this drive as it passes the end of a copse on the right hand side and then rejoin the Chiltern Way to cross over the River Chess. We turn right onto the Chess Valley Walk. Shortly before the walk arrives at Solesbridge Lane, we take a path right through a gate to skirt Chorleywood Lawn Cemetery. After the cemetery we turn left along the drive to emerge on the A404 opposite the car park where we started the walk.
